A great companion to the book

This app brings all recipes from the book and is packed with nice features such as a shopping list generator, timer and the ability to print or export recipes. It is a great complement to the book of the same name.

Great app

Clear recipes and the variations are great. Highly recommend!

A Favorite app for cooking!

Very well designed for the iPad and iPhone. Searching for recipes is clever and easy. I love the timer that is usable right inside the recipes. The app is a pleasure to use. The recipes, their variations and the comments from the author invite creativity and freedom.

Amazing

Wow, exactly what I needed, awesome recipes, easy to use app and very well designed. Its one app that I am sure to use everyday. Worth the time to write a review. MB good job!! Noosh

Awesome!

Really easy to use and follow, and thats coming from someone with zero cooking experience or knowledge. Tons of recipes, loads fast, and is really well organized.

Veery surprisingly good app.

Very good app

Killer Content, great layout

Mark Bittman remains one of the best cook book authors that encourages experimentation and an intelligent approach to cooking. He helps you understand how the recipe works so you can learn to modify and experiment as you cook. The format is excellent, especially with a community aspect by voting on recipes that you have cooked. Fantastic work, and much like his how to cook everything app, it is highly recommended.

So-so

Its okay. I find the recipes arent grouped easily and it seems like its missing some content. Im not sure if its stand alone or if you need the book. Had I known that I may have bought the ebook instead of the app.

Very good very well balanced recipes

I have made several items from this book and have loved every thing. It is all easy and very tasty. Current favorites are overnight French bread, the easiest and most delicious bread you could make, and saffron olive oil cookies with an orange glaze the most beautiful combo of saffron and orange. The main dishes are filling, easy, and delicious. I love how other recipes for various ingredients are linked in the list of the recipe you are currently working. For example, when making espresso chili the other day (so delicious!) the recipe for fresh homemade chili powder was linked into the ingredient list for the chili, brilliant. Thank you for these delicious vegetarian recipes.

None

Great food ideas one of my favorite apps.

Highly recommended

This is an excellent app. The recipes are clear and concise, the illustrations and photos are gorgeous! Great food, havent found a recipe yet that my family hasnt loved. Well worth a look!

So few pictures

I was very surprised at how few photos there are in this app. It seems the only recipes to have pictures are the weekly highlighted ones. Even his top 100 essential recipes do not have photos. Odd and disappointing.

The cooks bible fully enabled

Out of my now beat-up copy of the book Ive fed my family for five years, cooking my way pretty much from cover to cover, and, wondrously, never disappointed. Im now giving the book a well-earned rest and using the app on my iPad. Although there are no recipes in the app that are not in the book, the app makes recipes available in a way no book could. "Chard", for example, has two recipes in the books index. The apps search produces eleven, a number that increases to seventeen when "variations" is pressed, and then doubled to thirty-four when "reference" is included to suggest to you such things as putting chard under poached eggs. A great virtue of the book -- its flexibility in ingredients -- is now fully enabled...as is its inspirations. You want to do something Italian with chard? Yes, with a press theres calzone and ravioli. Ive bought the book for friends. Now Im gifting them the app. A suggestion for Mr Bittman: gluten-free variations. Itd be invaluable for Celiacs and others who are gluten-intolerant. Were gluten-free and Ive been able to adapt most recipes to our needs. The variations would easily be added to the app and you could do it better than I, Mr Bittman. With renewed gratitude to Mark Bittman, Jim Clark

Well-organized and easy to use!

Im new at my part-time vegetarianism and this app has really made it easier for me. There are so many recipes and made with a wide variety of items. I really like the instructions for basic techniques like making seitan.

Pretty darn good appt

Ive had this cookbook for a few years now and I LOVE it. But I love the iPad app even better! Its easier to use, doesnt weigh a ton (ok...er...5-6 pounds, lol), easier to make shopping lists and easier to substitute ingredients with confidence. Love this app. Worth every penny.

Everything I need

Very easy to use, search, and follow recipes. Every recipe Ive tried so far has been excellent.

Love it

Functions exactly as described. A great tool for the vegetarian or flexitarian.
